Our 4WD Tussock Buggies

In 1996 when High Country Explorer Tours started operating, the first 4WD Tussock Buggy we used was a Mercedes Benz Unimog 1300.  Although these vehicles are good in most conditions the Unimog proved to be unsuitable for our type of operation.

We then had to set about and find more suitable vehicles to cope with the very difficult conditions. The only option was to custom build vehicles, we chose to use Toyota based vehicles due to their rugged construction and proven reliability and to modify them to suit our requirements.

All our 4WD Tussock Buggies are built to a very high engineering and safe standard and are certified to very stringent standards set by New Zealand’s governing authority Land Transport New Zealand.
